Such wastewater features complex compositions, high toxicity and extremely poor biodegradability; moreover, some of its compounds carry carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic risks, exerting strong inhibitory effects on traditional biological treatment processes. Although conventional chemical oxidation methods deliver certain results, they are generally plagued by problems such as high chemical consumption, elevated operational costs, and secondary pollution caused by toxic intermediates or chemical sludge.
