Food processing wastewater is a typical high-concentration organic effluent generated during the processing of agricultural by-products, beverage manufacturing, and meat and dairy production. Its core characteristics include high chemical oxygen demand (COD), high biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), high levels of suspended solids, and significant amounts of oils and fats along with nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients. It may also contain salts, detergents, food additives, and certain colorants. Unlike many industrial wastewaters, food processing wastewater is generally less toxic and more biodegradable. However, it exhibits extreme fluctuations in water quality and volume, is highly prone to rapid decay and foul odors, and may contain substantial amounts of floating matter, animal fats, and plant fibers. Traditional treatment processes primarily rely on "pretreatment + anaerobic/aerobic biological treatment." Although technologically mature, they often face practical operational challenges such as incomplete pretreatment leading to biological systems being coated and clogged by fats and oils, large seasonal production shock loads, slow startup of biological systems, high volumes of excess sludge with elevated treatment costs, and difficulty in consistently meeting increasingly stringent discharge and reuse standards—particularly for the advanced removal of total phosphorus, color, and refractory COD.
Addressing the practical operational pain points of food processing wastewater—"high load shocks, high suspended oils and fats, difficulty in advanced purification after biological treatment"—the CQDHX SERIES EO Electrochemical Oxidation Equipment, developed and manufactured by our company (AA&SS AQUA HITECH CO., LTD.), generates highly oxidizing substances through electrocatalytic action. This effectively degrades refractory organic compounds remaining in the wastewater after biological treatment (such as certain colorants and surfactants), eliminates odors, and provides simultaneous disinfection. Its notable advantages are that the operation requires no addition of chemical agents, avoiding the extra operational costs and residue issues associated with dosing chemical oxidants. Moreover, its reaction mechanism does not produce any chemical sludge, which holds significant value for food enterprises aiming to reduce overall sludge production.
The wastewater first undergoes pretreatment, including screening to remove large particulate impurities, oil separation tanks or flotation units to efficiently remove free and emulsified oils and fats, and equalization tanks to balance the significant fluctuations in water quality and quantity. The pretreated wastewater then directly enters the electrochemical enhanced treatment unit. For high-concentration wastewater or wastewater containing refractory components, the front-end EC Electrochemical Equipment can perform deep demulsification and oil removal, efficiently eliminate suspended solids and colloids, and simultaneously reduce some COD and phosphates. This greatly improves the biodegradability of the wastewater or reduces the load for subsequent advanced treatment.
The effluent from biological treatment then enters the CQDHX SERIES EO Electrochemical Oxidation Equipment. Here, electrochemical advanced oxidation effectively removes residual organic matter and color, ensuring stable compliance of the effluent's sensory and sanitary indicators.
Through the CQDHX SERIES EO Electrochemical Oxidation Equipment independently developed by our company, operating in a clean mode without chemical addition and without generating chemical sludge, comprehensive technical support is provided for food wastewater treatment—from efficient pretreatment and biological process enhancement to advanced polishing. It is particularly adept at solving key challenges such as oil and fat removal, shock load buffering, and achieving compliant effluent color and sanitary indicators, helping food processing enterprises achieve multiple goals of environmental compliance, cost control, and resource reuse.
For wastewater with special characteristics or specific treatment objectives, our engineering team provides technical support and customized solutions.
