Dissolved air flotation is a highly efficient and rapid solid-liquid or liquid-liquid separation technology in water treatment. It is particularly adept at removing light suspended solids, oils and greases, algae, and colloidal substances that are difficult to treat effectively with traditional sedimentation methods. Our DAF system integrates physical principles with chemical coagulation through sophisticated design, providing you with a stable and reliable pretreatment solution that significantly reduces the load on subsequent biochemical or filtration processes.
Compared with traditional sedimentation tanks that rely on gravitational settling, the DAF process introduces a large number of micro-bubbles to make pollutants float rapidly to the water surface for separation. Its advantages are as follows:
Fast separation speed: Short hydraulic retention time (usually 15–30 minutes) and much smaller floor area than sedimentation tanks.
Excellent treatment effect: Extremely high removal rate for pollutants with density close to or lower than water (e.g., oil, grease, fibers).
High sludge concentration: Low moisture content of scum (usually 95–97%), which greatly reduces the volume and cost of sludge treatment.
The mainstream system we provide is the pressurized dissolved air flotation, which features mature technology and high efficiency. The working process is as follows:
Air dissolution system: A portion of clarified water is fully mixed with air in a pressure air dissolution tank to form high-pressure dissolved air water.
Release and mixing: The dissolved air water enters the DAF tank through a dedicated releaser. The sudden pressure drop generates a large number of micro-bubbles with a diameter of 20–50 μm.
Adhesion and separation: The bubbles adhere to the "flocs" formed in the wastewater after chemical flocculation, forming "bubble-floc" complexes. The overall density of the complexes is lower than water, so they float rapidly to the water surface and form a scum layer.
Scum scraping and clarification: An automatic scum scraper scrapes the scum into the slag discharge trough, and the clarified water is discharged from the bottom of the tank.
System Advantages
High-efficiency core components: Patented air dissolution releasers are adopted to ensure the generated bubbles are fine, uniform, and stable, avoiding disturbance caused by large bubbles.
Optimized fluid design: The hydraulic design of the tank body ensures stable water flow without short-circuiting, providing sufficient collision and combination time for flocs and bubbles.
Intelligent integration: Integrated "DAF + chemical dosing" design enables automatic adjustment of flocculant dosage and pH value, achieving the best treatment effect and minimizing chemical consumption.
Flexible delivery: Standardized skid-mounted modules are available, facilitating transportation, installation, and rapid commissioning, which greatly shortens the project cycle.
Application Fields
Food Processing Industry (slaughtering, meat processing, dairy products, vegetable oil plants): Removal of oil, grease and protein.
Papermaking and Printing & Dyeing Industry: Removal of fibers, fillers, dyes and colloidal substances.
Petrochemical Industry: Treatment of oily wastewater and recovery of floating oil.
Leather and Textile Industry (hair-removal wastewater, wool-washing wastewater): Removal of suspended solids and oil.
Municipal Sewage Treatment: Treatment of algae-containing water bodies or as an enhanced alternative to primary sedimentation tanks.
Other Industries: Treatment of emulsified oil-containing wastewater from metal processing, car washing, mechanical processing, etc.
