The wastewater generated during the production of fragrances and flavors typically contains high concentrations of esters, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and other complex organic synthesis intermediates. Characterized by high chemical diversity, distinct characteristic odors and poor biodegradability of some components, such wastewater is often difficult to treat stably and efficiently with traditional biochemical processes.
